A Thank You To My Friends
ByAs I sit here trying to figure out how to begin this post, I find myself utterly at a loss for words. And for those of you who know me, you know how out of character it is for me to be rendered speechless. A few days ago when I published “Desperation Time and 19 Miles Past Screwed” the walls were closing in on me. I was ready to just go underground and tell the whole world to go take a flying fuckin’ leap. It seemed that anything that could go wrong had gone wrong and there was no light at the end of the tunnel. I was so far past hopeless I was lapping it for the seventh time. And then…
A miracle. A lifeline. A reason to have faith that good still exists in the world and a reminder that the people in my virtual world aren’t just my online friends – you’re hall of fame, world class, awesome people. My guardian angels. My saving graces. My knights in shining armor. You are my friends. Not my online friends. Not my Twitter friends. My friends.
I don’t know what I’ve done to deserve you, but I will never, even for a moment, take it for granted. From Israel to Australia, you’ve reached out to and pulled me back from the bottomless pit of despair. I will never forget this as long as I live. You have filed down the sharp edges of my cynic’s sword and renewed my faith in humanity. I am profoundly grateful to everyone who offered kind words, encouragement, advice and, last but not least, for your donations.
Because of you I was able to pay the entire past due balance and the repossession has been called off. I am forever in your debt. Real wealth is measured in much more than dollars and cents. And while CarMax may not take that kind of currency, I’ve hit a different kind of lottery…a jackpot that can never be squandered away on luxury cars and gadgets or lost in the stock market.

To say it put a huge smile on my face is an understatement.

I wasn’t reading your blog or following you on Twitter when all this happened.

To say that the experience was life-changing would be an understatement. The word “thankful” falls miles short of adequate as it applies to expressing my gratitude to those who help me.
