Here's a great segment from Rachel Maddow which sums up the original issue, as well as Rush's personal attacks on Sandra Fluke:Rush Limbaugh is not only a despicable misogynist, he doesn't even have a basic understanding of how birth control pills work.Let's put aside for moment that his imbecilic rant has nothing to do with the original issue, which was that Sandra Fluke was not permitted to testify in front of a congressional committee about women's reproductive health care. … [Read more...]

Impossible Victory
This is a fictional short story about a historic presidential election told from the perspective of a former campaign staffer. On that November evening, as we watched the coverage of polls closing across the nation, a hum began to vibrate through the room where we'd gathered together to celebrate our symbolic victory. As the night wore on, a more tangible and increasingly overwhelming victory became undeniably plausible. On network after network, anchors and pundits were befuddled by the … [Read more...]

1-800-830-8574 – NOT a Phishing Scam
At 7:37 pm EDT on June 3rd I received a call from 1-800-830-8574. Like many, I don't answer calls on my personal cell phone from numbers I don't recognize. Because the call was forwarded to voicemail, the automated message was cut off and left me with little information about the nature of the call, but I was able to gather that it was related to a MasterCard account. The only MasterCard in my checkbook is my PayPal debit card. So, I at least had that piece of the puzzle. … [Read more...]

The Wolves Within Us
There is an old Cherokee proverb that speaks of two wolves that exist within each of us. These wolves compete in a lifelong struggle for control. At stake is the eternal impact we have on the world around us.As a grandfather explained to his grandson, one wolf represents good - peace, love, compassion, empathy and all that makes us inherently decent. The other, evil - avarice, envy, fear, hatred, lying and all that makes us uniquely virulent. The grandson then asked, "Which wolf … [Read more...]

The Pledge of Allegiance Controversy – An Open Letter to 99.9 Gator Country in Jacksonville, FL
Early this morning I was driving home, listening to a local morning show here in Jacksonville. It's called "Your Hometown Morning Show" and features 99.9 Gator Country radio personalities Steve Sutton, Eden Kendall and Amadeus. Though, I should note, that Eden is on vacation this week and was not a party to this conversation.During one of their segments Steve and Amadeus were discussing a meeting of parents, teachers and administrators from a local school here in Jacksonville. As it … [Read more...]

DANGER – Pit Bulls Are MONSTERS!
Everyone knows the story. Pit Bulls are evil. They're aggressive. Their goal is to rip you limb from limb. They'll attack your children. The sole purpose of a Pit Bull is to fight to the death. And they know it. So it's either them, or us. If we don't kill them, they'll kill us. They're like home-grown, four-legged terrorists that will tear out your throat if given the chance. RIGHT? … [Read more...]

A Thank You To My Friends
As I sit here trying to figure out how to begin this post, I find myself utterly at a loss for words. And for those of you who know me, you know how out of character it is for me to be rendered speechless. A few days ago when I published "Desperation Time and 19 Miles Past Screwed" the walls were closing in on me. I was ready to just go underground and tell the whole world to go take a flying fuckin' leap. It seemed that anything that could go wrong had gone wrong and there was no light … [Read more...]

My Guardian Angels
Several Twitter friends read the post I published a few hours ago, titled "Desperation Time and 19 Miles Past Screwed", and subsequently scolded me for not having included something along the lines of a donate button or a PayPal e-mail address or something. You guys are just awesome. I don't even know how to thank you for the encouragement, pep talks and offer to pitch in to help me out of what earlier tonight seemed like an utterly hopeless situation. I can't pretend I didn't consider … [Read more...]
